I hadn’t dated in quite a while, much longer than I’d like to admit, so when I was asked out by Ken, a man I’d spoken to a couple of times over the internet, I was kind of intimidated. He seemed quite nice, had some interesting stories to tell, and was easy on the eyes which is always a bonus. I had no idea what to expect, what to wear, what to do, how to act or anything!
I arrived at a local restaurant we both enjoy, where I was met by a well-groomed, well dressed date who looked kind of nervous. Obviously I wasn’t the only one who was anxious about the date! Luckily, once we were finally together we kind of relaxed. Dinner was great, the atmosphere was nice and we had a nice conversation, essentially telling our life stories in an hour and a half. We split the bill, and while the plan had only been to have dinner, we had clicked and decided we drove down to the park by the river, walking along the pathway and talking until the stars came out.
It sounds cliché, but the night was perfect. The skies were clear, the stars were bright and the soft glow of the park lamps made the dark water sparkle slightly. After a soothing walk along the path, we went for ice cream at a little stall and ate it at a picnic table overlooking the water. I had never thought a date with someone I had met on the internet would pan out at all, let alone be one of the best dates I’d ever had.
I suppose I’m a romantic at heart, but I absolutely love the classic date we had. It allowed us to converse for hours and realize we both wanted to continue seeing each other. It allowed us to connect and have fun, acting like kids by eating ice cream while having a more mature conversation. Needless to say, Ken and I had a second date, then a third, and now we’re at least into the triple digits! We’re absolutely perfect for each other, and I still find it incredible that I only met him because of a dating website on the internet!
