Bowling
Our first date was planned a couple of days in advance: we were going to the local bowling alley. Even though I had a few days to prepare, I was still nervous. I had never met anybody off the internet before, and I had heard all of the horror stories. I tried telling myself that those were a very small minority of cases, and that 99.9% of meetings from the internet went smoothly.
Nonetheless, I was a nervous wreck when I got to the alley. Once I recognized my date from his photos, I relaxed somewhat, greeted him, and we immediately clicked. He was completely confident and took charge, just as he had in our online conversations. He was exactly what I had expected. It took maybe 30 seconds for me to be completely relaxed around him and our date really started!
I easily beat him, and he celebrated by buying me a hot dog and a beer from the bar, taking no offense or feeling any less manly. I could tell he was proud, in a sense, to be beaten by me.
It was funny how, of all the men I had dated, some had cheated, some weren’t for me, some changed over time, but the common denominator was that none were perfect. I never thought I would find true love on the internet, of all places. Nonetheless, Tom and I clicked immediately, even though it was technically our first meeting.
After that first date we met again, and again, and again. Soon enough we were steadily seeing each other. Then, he offered to introduce himself to my parents, and while he didn’t blow them away they reluctantly approved of my choice. We went on vacations together, we moved in together, and eventually got married. As we’re currently trying to have a baby I felt it would be the perfect time to publish and reveal to the world just how we met, and just how we fell in love.
